Doors of Assam

                                                                                  Last week was busy for
me when I had a trip to Assam the green state with lots of tea estates. The occasion was a presentation that has to be delivered in a drilling conference organized by Oil India Limited. Last week I booked my ticket to Delhi on Friday and I was supposed to return to Mumbai on Monday. Instead I travelled from Delhi straight to Assam on 3 May as instructed by my boss.
The main thing I got a chance to spent time with loved one and on weekend and then I headed to Assam, Duliajan. The flight to Duliajan go straight to Guwahati where it stands for half an hour for little cleaning and then Duliajan!!
The tea estate I saw were not at all what I had a image of earlier, they basically are the small plantations grown around trees of very less density. You basically feel like a plane hold by trees which in turn have a support from sky.
The environment in Duliajan is like the one in Lord of the Rings or some Movie of Harry Potter. Clouded and cold is the theme and water all around the floor of Duliajan is what you find irritating. The buildings are of English era when they used to build houses for those who can dig the Digboi while in their absence. Means servant quarters to be more precise in modern language. I am talking about the royal OIL INDIA LIMITED guest houses.
The people there are very naïve means “koi 6 5 nahi hai” and they are very co-operative. Well I am again talking about hard core Assamides not those who have migrated from other part of country. Those who are in OIL INDIA LIMITED have a pride which can do havoc to you if you are little careless.
Last but not the least is the professional attitude, they don’t care about the substantial work done. Give a fluent presentation wearing shining shoes and pressed shirt and you will be the boss. They will praise you like anything while the grass root level attitude was simply stunning.
I took a taxi from Duliajan to Dibrugarh and I had a plan to do shopping in Dibrugarh. The chuffer dropped me on airport with no reciet means no means to claim 1700 bucks. That was awesome with another thing was that he didn’t had change of 1000 rupee note so he asked me to give a tip as “keep the change” thing.
Awesome!!! Assam is good but still doors of Assam should be open a little wider……..
